Runaway Van Kills 2 Toddlers in New York Chinatown Traffic Accident

New York’s Chinatown was the scene of a terrible traffic accident recently when a runaway van jumped the curb and plowed through a busy Chinatown sidewalk last week.   The runaway van crashed through a crowed of preschoolers on the sidewalk.   The van is owned by China Chalet restaurant and catering service.

The driver of the van double parked to make a delivery and thought the van was in park but was actually in reverse.  As he proceeded to get out of the van, the van rolled backwards down E. Broadway and into the group of children on the sidewalk outside the Chatham Square branch of the New York Public Library. The van pinned the Chinatown preschoolers against a wall killing two, critically injuring one, and injuring 11 others.

The preschoolers had gone to the nearby library in Chinatown and were on their way back to the Red Apple Day Care Center when the runaway van jumped the curb and crashed into a wall.  The two toddlers killed were four and three years old.  The four year old was killed instantly at the accident site and the three year old died later in a local New York hospital.  The critically injured toddler is four years old and is in critical condition as she is being treated for her injuries in a local New York area hospital.  There were 11 other children hurt in the Chinatown traffic accident but they are expected to make full recoveries.
