Two Injured in Accident

An accident occurred in New Hartford on May 5th that injured two people and a cell phone is to blame for the distraction of the motorist. The accident occurred on Burrstone Road at 11:15am when David Carter of Clark Mills became distracted by a telephone call he received on his cell phone while driving his vehicle. While taking the phone call Carter failed to notice that traffic was stopped up ahead at a red signal light at the intersection of Business Park Drive. He slammed his vehicle into the stopped traffic because of the distraction of the cell phone according to police reports.

Carter’s vehicle struck a vehicle that was being driver by 75 year old Frank Valeriano of Whitesboro. Valeriano’s vehicle then struck a vehicle that was being operated by 43 year old Cynthia Ellis of New York Mills. Both vehicles suffered extensive damage and two people were injured as a result of the accident. The two people that were injured include a passenger from Valeriano’s vehicle and a passenger from Ellis’ vehicle. Both injured motorists were treated at the scene of the accident by responding fire fighters and paramedics and neither person needed to be transported to the hospital for further treatment. The originator of the accident, Carter, was given a ticket for operating a vehicle while using a cell phone and he is scheduled to appear in town court at a later date.
